Free Health Clinic to hold open house August 22

The Huntington County Free Health Clinic, 1255 Engle Street, will hold an open house on Friday, August 22 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The staff of the clinic will give tours of the facility and refreshments will be served. The Huntington County Chamber of Commerce will hold the ribbon cutting at 12 noon at the facility.

The clinic moved from its former offices at Trinity United Methodist Church to the former Family Practice Associates medical building, on Friday, December 6, 2013. The current medical director is Dr. Anette Lane with Teresa Close as its Nurse Practitioner. Rosemary Wagner, RN, is the clinic director.

The clinic was established on October 24, 2004 and is a collection of skilled employees and volunteers, donated medical equipment and supplies and has the support of Huntington County citizens. The clinic is under the umbrella of Community and Family Services, Inc. (CFS) based in Portland, Indiana. The clinic is a non-profit organization and receives funds from personal donations, grants, various community organizations and churches.

To qualify for healthcare at the clinic, patients must be a resident of Huntington County, 18 to 64 years of age without healthcare insurance and proof of household income at 185% of poverty level or less. The clinic offers management of chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol. The clinic also offers acute care, dental care referrals, mental health referrals to the Bowen Center, optometry referrals, podiatry referrals and diabetic clinic referrals.

The clinic is open on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with walk-in patients taken on a first-come, first served basis. Prescriptions may be picked up on Thursdays from 2 to 4 p.m. Lab draws are done on Mondays at 9 a.m.
