Free Family Picnic Party to be held on October 1

Posted: Friday, September 2, 2011

The First Annual Family Picnic Party and Children’s Safety Event will be held Saturday, October 1 at Roush Lake Observation Area. The free, non-for-profit event will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is brought to the community by Mechelle Cotant, local children’s photographer.

Cotant owns Portraits by Mechelle and has a website and Facebook page where she advertises her business. She promised her clients that when she hit 4000 “fans” on her Facebook page that she would “throw them a party for being such great kids.” Cotant hit that mark and the party has grown to include several other community groups. All proceeds will go to the Boys & Girls Club and dog and cat face painting proceeds will go to the Humane Society.

The focus for the day will be on the safety of children in a fun and almost carnival-like atmosphere according to Cotant. The Sheriff’s Department, EMS, Humane Society and the Red Cross have become involved and several businesses and individuals have donated items for a raffle to be held that day.

Those attending need to bring a picnic lunch and blanket to sit on. Emergency vehicles will be present and there will be games, prizes, balloons, face painting, cookies, 50 cent raffle tickets and much more.

Raffle item include new bikes and helmets, double stroller, single stroller, MP3 players, sports team tutus, pizza gift certificates, hotel stay certificates, portrait session certificates, many family themed baskets and more.

Any business or individual that would like to be a part of the day or donate items for the raffle may contact Cotant at (260) 519-5175 or go to portraitsbymechelle@yahoo.com.
