Family Optometry to open on Northpark Avenue

Posted: Friday, August 16, 2019

Family Optometry is investing in a brand new, 3,400 square foot facility, to be located at 2880 Northpark Avenue in Huntington. The building is currently under construction by Desmonds, Inc., a contractor with extensive experience in the construction of medical office buildings.

Family Optometry was founded in Marion by Dr. Robert Hutchinson in 1981. The practice expanded to a second location in Wabash in 1994, with Dr. Hutchinson serving as the sole optometrist until Dr. Eric Dale joined him in 2007. From the beginning, Family Optometry was guided by Dr. Hutchinson’s convictions that people are more important than money, all patients deserve to be treated like family and the office should be a fun place for both staff and patients. While Dr. Hutchinson passed away in August 2014, Family Optometry continues to operate upon those principles he valued.

Upon Dr. Hutchinson’s passing, Dr. Dale became the new owner of the practice. Dr. Jack Derby joined Family Optometry in 2015, and became a co-owner in the practice three years later. In August 2015, Dr. Derby also joined the optometry practice of Dr. J. Jeffrey Hughes whose office is just down the street from the new location. Dr. Hughes has been a fixture in the Huntington community since 1981, earning the loyalty of many through his commitments to quality care, and his genuine concern for patients on a personal level.

After working alongside Dr. Derby for over two years, Dr. Hughes and his Huntington practice officially joined Family Optometry in January 2018.

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Hughes as part of the Family Optometry team, and we look forward to continuing and building upon the great reputation he has earned in the Huntington community,” said Dr. Dale.

Dr. Hughes, Dr. Derby and a third doctor will begin seeing patients at the new facility following its completion, which is anticipated by January 2020. The new facility will include state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and an expanded frame selection of over 500 frames. Services will include routine family eye care, contact lens fitting, pediatric eye care, diagnosis and management of ocular disease (including glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic eye care) and treatment of eye infection and injuries. Office hours will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday.
