Event Center to host Taylor, Fleetwood Band

Posted: Friday, November 13, 2020

Roanoke’s Cottage Event Center announces a new holiday show featuring the kind of Rock, Pop and Country Yuletide hits often missing from Christmas concerts. The event, called “Jingle Bell Rock,” will be headlined by renowned Rockabilly guitarist Kenny Taylor. Also, on the bill is acoustic oldies group The Fleetwood Band. Jingle Bell Rock is scheduled for Friday December 18, and is a fundraiser for the Southwest Allen County Food Bank.

Guitarist Kenny Taylor is among the most popular musicians in the area, as a member of the oldies band The Bulldogs, and children’s music duo The Atomic Sharks (featured on the PBS TV special “Play the Ukulele with The Atomic Sharks”). Taylor also plays with Fort Wayne’s Farmland Jazz Band, and teaches guitar and ukulele at the Sweetwater Academy of Music.

He has recently opened for rock legends Steve Miller Band, Boston and Huey Lewis & The News at Fort Wayne’s Foellinger Theater, and Herman’s Hermits. Backing Taylor will be his son Colin Taylor on bass, Kellen Baker, guitar and Sam Clay, drums. Among the tunes he is expected to perform are “Jingle Bell Rock” and Chuck Berry’s “Run Rudolph Run,” plus an original Taylor wrote and recorded as a member of the Blue Moon Boys, “SantaBilly Boogie.”

Opening the concert will be acoustic oldies group The Fleetwood Band, who will perform a variety of Pop and Country. Holiday hits by artists like Bruce Springsteen, Willie Nelson, Buck Owens, Darlene Love and more. The Fleetwood Band consists of Barrie Fleetwood, guitar and vocals; wife, Pam Fleetwood, percussion; Chris Smith, vocals and Jim Amstutz, keyboards. The group performs at festivals and wineries around the area, and previously appeared at the Roanoke venue for the Oak Hill Farm Barbecue Chef Cookoff.

A cash bar will be available, and food will be offered for purchase from Oley’s Pizza. Tickets are $12 per person, and may be ordered by calling (260) 483-3508, online at cottageeventcenter.com, or at John’s Meat Market in Roanoke. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show begins at 7:30 p.m.
