Dedication of the Statue of Father Solanus Casey

Posted: Friday, July 20, 2018

St. Felix Catholic Center will dedicate a statue of Father Solanus Casey on Monday, July 30. The event will begin at the St. Felix Friary, 1280 Hitzfield Street, beginning at 2 p.m.

Father Solanus, born Bernard Casey in Wisconsin in 1870, was declared Venerable by Pope John Paul II in 1994, and was beautified at Ford Stadium in Detroit in 2017 before 60,000 people. This will be the first celebration of his Feast Day, made possible by the declaration of being “Blessed,” which is one step away from being declared saint.

Father Solanus was at the St. Felix Friary in Huntington from 1946 to 1956. Father Solanus returned to Detroit in 1956 for medical treatment. He died there in 1957.
