Daniels: not surprised by wild market swings

Posted: Monday, August 15, 2011

As Wall Street hopes for a less volatile week, Governor Mitch Daniels says emergency actions can be taken to help stabilize the U.S. economy. In an interview on Inside INdiana Business Television, Daniels says numerous factors contributed to the nation's economic turmoil, including what he believes to be a national economic strategy that is "anti-growth."

Daniels says Washington has made it more expensive and time consuming to help businesses grow and hire workers. He has called for a moratorium on new federal regulations to give the private sector a chance to catch up.

Daniels believes no state can fully recover while the national economy continues to struggle and unemployment hovers around 9 percent.

He says perhaps officials now realize that an economic change is needed for Indiana to regain a AAA credit rating from Standard and Poor's.

Daniels adds everything needs to take second place to helping the private sector grow and create jobs.

Stock futures this morning are pointing to a positive opening on Wall Street.
