Council on Aging to celebrate future site

Posted: Friday, April 29, 2011

It is with excitement that we announce the recent acquisition and upcoming renovations of our new facility for Huntington County Council on Aging. On December 31, 2010 we signed closing documents to purchase 1450 W. Park Drive in Huntington. The property was originally Huntington Tractor Sales and more recently, owned by Ironclad Excavating.

Huntington County Council on Aging operates the Senior Center, with its many programs and services for the senior citizens of Huntington County as well as Huntington Area Transportation (HAT). With the growing senior population and continued demand for public transportation, the board of directors became aware of the need for a larger facility. A search for a site has been going on for the past two years. The Council on Aging has been housed in several locations over the past thirty-seven years, and we would like to have a permanent place; somewhere inviting and large enough for additional programs to better address the growing needs of our aging population.

We have the building, however it requires extensive renovations. Grant writing and a capital campaign are our next steps. We are having a dinner on May 7, 2011 to celebrate our future location and kick-off the capital campaign. Anyone wishing to attend and share in our enthusiastic anticipation can call the Senior Center at 359-4410 to make a reservation. Cost is $35/plate and you will need to specify beef or chicken when you make your reservation. Deadline for reservations is May 4.
