Cottage Event Center to hold free concert

The Cottage Event Center will host a free concert on Friday, November 10 to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Harvey in Texas. The event will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. (doors open 5:30). Admission is free; all proceeds from the event, including the cash bar, food sales, raffles and donations will be sent to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund, distributed by the Greater Houston Community Foundation.

The show will feature performances by Christian Singer-Songwriter Don Wharton, Jen Fisher and Barrie Fleetwood. Christian Singer-Songwriter Don Wharton, has performed at over 3,000 churches, schools and conventions. He has performed his music ministry in all 50 states and in several foreign countries. He has written over 250 songs and has also written a novel, Conviction. A highlight of Wharton’s performance is his recounting of his surviving a plane crash in 1993 in the Bering Sea near Nome, Alaska while returning from a mission trip to the Soviet Union.

Besides her solo work as a singer-songwriter, Jen Fisher, has performed with a number of local bands including as lead vocalist with Country-Rock group Sugar Shot. She is also part of pop cover band Finding Friday, and recently began appearing with her new Acoustic/Bluegrass inspired ensemble Jen & the Foggy Creek Band.

Singer-guitarist Barrie Fleetwood, left, performs at various wineries and events around Indiana. His repertoire includes songs ranging from Bob Dylan and John Hiatt to Van Morrison and The Monkees. Fleetwood is also part of the popular Acoustic Trio Autumn Grey, which annually performs at the Roanoke facility as part of the annual BBQ Chef Cook-off fundraiser for Oak Hill Farm.

Food available for purchase will include sloppy joes, hot dogs and Coney dogs, and various desserts. There will be door prizes throughout the night. There will also be a 50/50 raffle, plus The Cottage will raffle off tickets to their News Year’s Eve Dinner Show starring The Brat Pack, and a voucher good for a free rental of the facility to be used between January and April of 2018 (some restrictions apply).
