Comprehensive plan meeting scheduled

Posted: Monday, January 17, 2011

A comprehensive plan that will guide growth in the city of Huntington for the next two decades is being developed by the Huntington Plan Commission. The Plan Commission invites community members to provide input toward the plan at a meeting to be held on Thursday, January 20 at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers on the third floor of the City Building, 300 Cherry Street.

The meeting, as well as those to follow, will focus on the development of policies for city identity and image, government and community services, downtown revitalization, economic development, education, transportation, housing, parks and recreation, sustainability and preservation, and future land use.

The results of the meetings will be compiled with information gathered by the Plan Commission towards the completion of the new comprehensive plan which will replace an outdated plan formulated in 1964. The project will be completed entirely by the Plan Commission, public, and staff from the Huntington Countywide Department of Community Development in an effort to save costs.

Once completed the “2012 Comprehensive Plan” will be used by a broad range of community entities for the next 15 to 20 years. For additional information, contact Bryn Keplinger at the Huntington Countywide Department of Community Development at 358-4840.
