Community Connection to prepare taxes again

Posted: Friday, January 9, 2015

Pathfinder Community Connections, the Community Development division of Pathfinder Services, will again provide FREE tax preparation assistance to those who made less than $55,000 in 2014. Pathfinder Community Connections will begin offering this service on Tuesday, January 27 and the service will run through Wednesday, April 15. Additionally, a drop-off option and a self-service kiosk add a level of convenience for those taxpayers utilizing the free service.

This year marks the sixth year the Volunteer Income Tax Preparation (VITA) Program will be offered, thanks to funding from the IRS, United Way of Huntington County and the Huntington County Community Foundation. More than 1,200 family and individual tax returns, totaling nearly $1.7 million in tax refunds, were prepared by Pathfinder Community Connections VITA program volunteers in 2014. Of those, 362 qualified for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) which in 2015 could save a qualifying family anywhere from $487 to $6,044, depending on the size of the family.

For those who wish to work one-on-one with an IRS trained volunteer to prepare their taxes, appointments can be made by calling (260) 355-2510 or emailing Some evening appointments are available. For those wanting to take advantage of the drop-off option, hours for drop-off are on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 9 to 11 a.m., 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. at Pathfinder Services, 2824 Theater Avenue, Huntington.
