Clifford the Big Red Dog to visit library

Posted: Friday, June 14, 2013

Clifford the Big Red Dog is coming to Huntington City-Township Public Library in celebration of Summer Reading Club programs and the Scholastic Book Fair. Kids of all ages are invited to meet Clifford the Big Red Dog, who will appear in the Children’s Department at the main library at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, and at the Markle Branch Library at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 21.

The events will feature Clifford-themed activities and special Clifford the Big Red Dog Story Times, as well as a chance for kids to have their photo taken with Clifford himself. Parents are highly encouraged to bring their own cameras. These events are free and open to everyone young at heart.

First published by Scholastic in 1963, the Clifford the Big Red Dog series of books by Norman Bridwell has never fallen out of fashion with kids and their parents, and Clifford’s popularity increased in recent years thanks to the PBS animated series of the same name. Clifford and his pals (both canine and human) play, discover and interact with each other and the inhabitants of Birdwell Island, learning that good friends are what life is all about. Clifford stories are fun, gentle and kid-relatable — they deal with issues that kids are experiencing: whether it’s bragging, not wanting to share or learning that telling the truth is the best policy.
