Christmas in the City sponsorships available

Posted: Friday, October 11, 2019

Christmas is just around the corner and plans are underway to celebrate Christmas in the City from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, November 30. Various places in downtown Huntington will be the location of the fun with the grand finale, the tree lighting ceremony at Rotary Centennial Park, at 6 p.m.

The Downtown Business Association (DBA) organizes Christmas in the City each year and needs the community’s help to make the event free for all those that attend. There are many activities taking place for children and adults that are in need of sponsorship.

Some of the fun planned includes free visits with Santa at the Courthouse from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Photos of children with Santa will be taken by Frederick’s Photography with no charge. Other activities include free pony rides and petting zoo, visits with two live reindeer, trackless train rides and face painting at Fifth Parlor.

Other events in various locations include story time; photos at “Whoville” with “The Grinch,” in a Gingerbread booth, photos with “Buddy the Elf” and with “Elsa and Anna” from the Disney movie “Frozen.  Refreshments will include cookies, hot chocolate and cider and free popcorn.

The Erie Band’s saxophone and brass ensemble along with carolers will entertain throughout the festivities. Maps will be available at The Party Shop detailing the location of each event taking place.

Santa will arrive on a firetruck, proceeding from the St. Mary’s church parking lot, at 6 p.m. to kick off the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony at 6 p.m.

Those interested in helping with Christmas in the City, can send checks to: Huntington County Community Foundation, P.O. Box 5037, Huntington, IN 46750, and note Christmas in the City on the memo line.
