Child's Play Autism Centers to host open house

Posted: Friday, June 12, 2015

Child’s Play Autism Centers will host an open house at their future Huntington facility on Thursday, June 18, from 5 to 8 p.m. Along with Child’s Play co-directors Jason Shaw and Rebecca Fulcher, scheduled speakers will include pediatrician Duane Hougendobler, MD, of Parkview First Group, and Shelly Snyder, director of the Huntington Bowen Center.

Following the presentations will be an open Q & A session in which Child’s Play hopes to address questions about Autism Spectrum Disorder and initiate a discussion about autism resources and state-mandated insurance coverage. Families are encouraged to bring diagnosis and insurance paperwork if interested in beginning the enrollment process.

“After plans for the Huntington Autism Center fell through in 2013, we recognized a need for Applied Behavioral Analysis, or ABA, therapies in our community,” says Shaw. “And that’s how Child’s Play came into being.”

Located at 84 Commercial Road, the new facility will have the capacity to provide services for up to 30 full-time clients, and on-site features include large play areas, classroom simulation space, a gymnasium, an art room, as well as a kitchen, laundry room and shower facilities for life skills and self-care training.

Founded in 2014, Child’s Play Autism Centers operate facilities in Huntington and Fort Wayne. The organization’s mission is “To embrace the life and potential of all individuals through competent and sincere supportive services.” For more information, please contact Jason Shaw at (260) 373-1050 or, or visit
