Chamber names Vocational Student Awards

The Huntington County Chamber of Commerce held its 2012 Vocational Student Awards program on Monday, April 9 at Huntington University. The event is held each year to honor the top students at Huntington North High School in their field of majors.

The awards were presented by Jeremy Gulley, principal of Huntington North High School. The three fields recognized were Industrial Technology with Curt Hackney as the teacher; Business, Dave Blocker, teacher and Family and Consumer Science with Tiffanney Drummond as the teacher.

The winners in the Industrial Technology classes were: CAD, Megan Smart, sponsored by Lime City Manufacturing; PLTW (Project Lead the Way); Trenton Kern, sponsored by Shuttleworth; Transportation, Michael Marshall, sponsored by Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC; Manufacturing, Caleb Hadaway, sponsored by UT Electronic Controls; Construction, Roger Jones, sponsored by Builders Mart; Vocational Automotive, Josh Ray, sponsored by Transwheel Corp.; I.C.E., Kaitlyn Campbell, sponsored by Schneider Electric/Square D and Machine Trades, Brandon Burnworth, sponsored by Mignone Communications. The winners in the Business classes were: Accounting, Elizabeth Blinn, sponsored by First Federal Savings Bank; Information Technology, Mary Katherine Miller, sponsored by Bowers Brewer Garrett & Wiley LLP and Business, Candice Wright, sponsored by Bippus State Bank.

The winners in the Family and Consumer Science classes were: Early Childhood Education, Michaella Harrison, sponsored by UT Electronics Controls; Family and Consumer Sciences, Brittany Scher, sponsored by Kim Haneline of RE/Max Professional Group; the second winner in the Family and Consumer Science classes were Jenna Heaston, sponsored by Huntington University and Health Services, Lauren Johnson, sponsored by Miller’s Merry Manor.
