Posted: Friday, February 21, 2014

The Huntington County Chamber of Commerce held its Third House Legislative Forum on Saturday, February 15. The event was held at the Huntington City-Township Public Library from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.

Joining the discussion this year were State Senators Travis Holdman and Jim Banks, State Representative Dan Leonard, City Council president, Joe Blomeke, sitting in for Mayor Brooks Fetters and Larry Buzzard, president, Huntington County Commissioners. Also in attendance were Vince Buchanan, executive director, Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Indiana State Auditor Suzanne Crouch.

The group of 40 individuals heard from the elected officials from city, county and state government. Some of the topics discussed by our state legislators were the business property tax, House Joint Resolution (HJR-3) same sex marriage, transportation, tax credits, the education system in Indiana and more. The local topics revolved around new initiatives, combined dispatch, sewer system and repaved roads, wind energy to name just a few of the topics that were touched upon.

The Chamber would like to thank the elected officials for taking time out of their busy schedules to attend the forum, Mike Perkins, who so graciously agreed to be the moderator, and all the local citizens who took the time on a cold Saturday morning to attend and ask questions.
