Celebrate Library Card Month with discounts

Posted: Friday, September 1, 2017

To celebrate National Library Card Signup Month, local businesses around Huntington and Markle will offer discounts to library card holders throughout September. Simply look for the window or desk sign advertising the business as part of the sale, and flash your library card when you go to make your purchase.

If you don’t have a library card, visit either the Huntington or Markle libraries with proof of address and photo ID to get your card. Each business is running its own discount - to see what you can save, visit http://hctpl.info/card-discounts. Don’t forget to thank the businesses for supporting the community and the library, too.

Two sandwiches are usually major portions of a child’s diet - grilled cheese and the PB & J. In the next installment of the Huntington Library’s Kids Cooking series, children age seven to 12 will get to revamp these classic sandwiches into something different, yet just as tasty. The workshop will take place at the Markle Library on Friday, September 15 at 5 p.m. and at the Huntington Library, Thursday, September 28 at 6 p.m.

Teens will get the chance to turn some old photo frames into something chic and modern with the Huntington Library’s Upcycled Picture Frames workshops. Part One takes place Wednesday, September 13 at 6 p.m. at the Huntington Library and Saturday, September 16 at 10 a.m. at the Markle Library, with Part Two taking place Saturday, September 23 at Noon at the Huntington Library. This is a hands-on program that involves using a miter saw, hammer, nails, drill and screwdriver.

The Markle Library will host a class on Windows 10 at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, September 13. Adults who want to learn the basics of Microsoft’s newest computer operating system are invited to bring their own Windows 10 device and get hands-on experience with a librarian’s guidance. Registration is required, so visit http://hctpl.info/program-reg to sign up.
