Car shows planned, Kids Zone has new location

Heritage Days will once again include two vehicle shows as a part of the celebration for 2019. A downtown Car, Truck & Motorcycle Show, sponsored by MetroNet, will be held Friday evening, June 21 from 5 to 9 p.m. The Huntington County Disaster Team Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show will be held Saturday, June 22 at Huntington North High School from 3 to 8 p.m. Gerdau Huntington Facility is the official sponsor of Heritage Days 2019.

Friday evening in downtown Huntington promises to celebrate Huntington’s heritage with a festival atmosphere. As part of the Heritage Days theme for 2019, “The ’60s: “Yesterday,” the evening also includes ’60s music by The Moon Cats Band. This event will take place at Jefferson and Franklin Streets, and is sponsored by Lake City Bank. The carnival will also be in operation.

The Friday evening vehicle show is being organized by Chris and Erin Covey of the Heritage Days steering committee of the Chamber of Commerce. The show is open to all cars, trucks, tractors and motorcycles with registration taking place at the intersection of Jefferson and Washington Streets from 3 to 6:30 p.m. The vehicle entry fee is $10.

Cars will enter downtown at Jefferson and Park Drive. Bikes will park on Market Street between Cherry and Jefferson Streets. Dash plaques and goody bags will be given to the first 75 vehicles registered. Awards will take place at 8:30 p.m. to the top 25; best of show; best car, truck, motorcycle; best paint; best engine and best interior. The Huntington County Disaster Team Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show is being organized by Max Kaylor and his team of the Heritage Days steering committee. It will take place at Huntington North High School from 3 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 22. Registration will be from 3 to 6 p.m. with a $10 fee. The show will take place on the west side of the high school with entry from MacGahan Street.

Ten awards plus two special awards will be presented for pre-1970s vehicles. Ten awards plus two special awards will also be given for vehicles from 1971 and to present. Five motorcycle awards will be presented. Participants must be present to win awards which will be announced at 8 p.m. DJ Dick Smart of Smart Productions will provide music during the show. Kaylor and the Huntington County Disaster Team will man the car show at Huntington North, while the Heritage Days Kids Zone takes place from 4 to 7 p.m. also at the high school. The Kids Zone has been moved from its original Cherry Street location. The Kids Zone will include many fun activities including bounce houses, pony rides, camel rides and petting zoo.

The Beacon Credit Union sponsored Kiddie Tractor Pull will be a part of the festivities along with Christian Life Tabernacle and The Mission International’s Archery Tag, Hover Ball and obstacle course. The Hot Air Balloon festival will also be taking place around 6 p.m. followed by a balloon glow at dark. The Samaritan helicopter, emergency vehicles and food vendors will also be present.
