Brunner runs Diaper Drive for On Your Way Up

Posted: Friday, February 17, 2017

Bethany Brunner, a Huntington North senior, conducted a community wide Diaper Drive to benefit the Youth Services Bureau’s On Your Way Up program. She chose this as part of her Gold Award project for Girl Scouts. The Gold Award is the highest award a Girl Scout can achieve.

“Bethany set up a competition among Girl Scout troops in Huntington County to see who could donate the most diapers and/or diaper wipes. She also challenged classes at Huntington North to donate diapers and wipes and sought community donations,” stated Ira Bencun, program coordinator.

Thus far over 3,000 diapers have been donated, along with 35 packages of diaper wipes.

“Bethany not only sought out the donations, she, along with several other Girl Scouts and adults packaged the diapers into individual units to be utilized at the On Your Way Store,” shared Jan Williams, executive director of the Youth Services Bureau.

On Your Way Up is an incentive program designed to provide parents with items they need for their families such as car seats, diapers, gently used clothing and safety items. The incentives are obtained through activities the parents and children participate in that promote healthy life choices.
