Boys & Girls Club requesting items

Posted: Wednesday, August 17, 2011

The Boys & Girls Club of Huntington County opens for the school year on Tuesday, August 23. It is located at 608 East State Street and throughout the summer months, served over 130 youth each day.

The club opens each day after school and provides many activities for youth to participate in along with homework help. A donation wish list of needed items for the club includes games such as board games, ping pong paddles/balls, pool sticks, Legos and decks of cards. In the gym area of the club, equipment such as jump ropes, gator skin dodgeballs, ball bags, basketballs, an air compressor and volleyball net would be helpful.

As homework is a priority at the club, school supplies that are useful include book bags, folders, notebooks and mechanical pencils. Other supplies the club would appreciate are Kinecht games, appropriate DVDs, DVD player, E-readers, flash drives, pencil sharpeners, calculators, markers, crayons, erasers, flash cards and damage-free hanging strips.

Many students participate in art projects at the club and supplies used in these projects are also needed. These include glue, glue sticks, construction paper, poster board, paint, paint brushes and card stock.

Boys & Girls Club members enjoy meals and snacks during the time spent there. Kitchen items that are always in use include hand can openers, plastic or Styrofoam cups/plates, napkins, paper towels, plastic silverware and 40-50 oz. trash bags. Donations of these items are also appreciated.

Additional items that can be used by the club include plastic totes with lids, a laminator, a sound system for monthly events and a 10-passenter van or mini-van.
