Books Alive begin programming

Posted: Friday, February 25, 2011

The Fort Wayne Dance Collective Touring Company began their Books Alive program in all Huntington County elementary schools in February. This delightful literacy-based performance invites students into the world of children’s books including Dr. Seuss’ The Foot Book, Babette Cole’s Princess Smartypants, Alma Flor Ada’s The Gold Coin, The Z was Zapped by Chris Van Allsburg, as well as a piece using Haiku poetry. This 45 minute program engages the audience through dance, theatre and a variety of interesting props while delivering an unusual and humorous performance that will ignite student’s imagination. Performers include Brittney Coughlin, Nina Shaw, Gloria Minnich and Liz Monnier.

This programming is sponsored by the LaFontaine Arts Council as a part of the yearly Arts in Education Series of programs features in all schools each year. This year’s programming marked the 20th year of Arts in Education in the schools.

Arts in Education programming supplements the school curriculum and reinforces the belief that arts are an essential part of providing a well-rounded education to all students. The LaFontaine Arts Council strives to provide students the experience with the arts which assists students in areas of critical thinking and analytical skills that will prepare them for the 21st century world.
