Blessing in a Backpack asks for help

Posted: Friday, November 1, 2013

Blessings in a Backpack of Huntington County is a not-for-profit organization which provides weekend meals to elementary school children. The children it serves rely on the free and reduced meal program through the local school system.

The vision of Blessings in a Backpack for these children is increased school attendance, better test scores, improved reading skills, positive behavior and improved health. The organization is seeking financial donations from the community and local businesses as a member of the community has offered to match all donations received until January 31, 2013 up to $10,000.

The additional money will help Blessings in a Backpack to increase the number of children fed at schools currently being served. It also may support the addition of other schools to the program. 100 percent of every donation goes to feeding children in Huntington County.

There are two ways to donate; by check or on the website. All checks should be written to Blessings in a Backpack and dropped off at or mailed to 1515 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN 46750. Please include HUNTINGTON CO.-IN SCHOOLS on the memo line. The website address is On the right side of the main page, click the Give Money button.
