Beacon Credit Union donates $21,000

Posted: Friday, October 25, 2013

Beacon Credit Union has announced the winners of its third annual “Project Spotlight” charitable giving campaign. Project Spotlight is a program created by Beacon Credit Union with the hope that individuals and organizations would be inspired to reach out and serve those living and working around them. The campaign took place in all 12 of the communities that Beacon has a full service branch located.

Residents in the participating communities nominated worthwhile charitable organizations, community projects and local non-for-profits that they believed deserved financial support. Community members were then able to vote for their favorite cause either online or in their local Beacon Credit Union branch. This year, a Facebook component was added to the online voting process allowing voters to directly link the project they voted for and a link to the Project Spotlight voting page. In addition voters were able to vote once per day per community, as opposed to the past where each voter was only allowed to vote once.

The project in each community that received the most votes won $1,000 of funding from Beacon Credit Union. The second place winners in each community received $500 of funding, and the third place winners in each community received $250 of funding. The total amount of money donated to charitable organizations in Northeast Indiana by Beacon Credit Union through Project Spotlight was $21,000.

In Huntington County, Women’s Life House was awarded first place as the funding will be used towards the purchase of essential items such as food, utilities, books, etc. in support of the women’s shelter.  Huntington House Homeless Shelter was awarded second place, and they plan to use the funds towards replacing windows at the house. This will provide the shelter a more safe and comfortable place for the temporary residents that reside there.  In third place was the Huntington County Free Clinic, they plan to use their funding to help pay for all operating expense associated with the free medical care clinic.

Beacon Credit Union is proud to be a part of all of the communities we serve and we are enthusiastic about joining together with other organizations that are committed to bettering Northeast Indiana.  For the past 82 years Beacon Credit Union has been dedicated to a “members first” philosophy and being accountable to the communities it serves and Project Spotlight is an exceptional representation of that commitment.
