Arts Initiative, Head Start partner for video

Posted: Friday, February 1, 2013

The Huntington Arts Initiative, Inc. and Huntington Head Start recently partnered to produce a video showcasing the fire hydrants in the downtown Huntington area.

Head Start students starred in the video by singing the “ABC” song while holding alphabet letters.

Each year the Arts Initiative sponsors an outdoor public art exhibit with area artists using the hydrants as the canvas to follow a certain theme. After “Dog Days of Summer” in 2010 and “Down(town) By the Sea” in 2011, the 2012 theme was “A Is For Alphabet.” Artists chose their letters and were assigned hydrants to paint. Twenty-nine artists participated, so three of the letters were used twice.

The video production began after the hydrants were painted. All the Head Start students participated by singing the “ABC” song. Individual students were then featured, holding marquee letters and saying what the letters stood for.

The video project helps further the desire of the Arts Initiative “to enrich, to entertain and to educate.” The link to the video can be found on the Facebook pages of both the Arts Initiative and the La Fontaine Arts Council and at www.lafontaineartscouncil.org, which is the website for the LAC.

The Arts Initiative will sponsor a fourth hydrant painting public art exhibit in 2013. The theme will be announced in the summer.
