Four Huntington North High School seniors were recognized by the LaFontaine Arts Council as Artists of the Month recently. Honored in April were Zach Allen, Alex Stanley, Andrea Broxon and Andrea Shriner. Jon Wenning nominated Zach Allen for the award. As a member of the choral program at HNHS for the last four years, Zach also serves as dance captain of the Varsity Singers. According to Mr. Wenning “Zach has demonstrated excellence in leadership and character. He is a lead senior bass in the choral group as well. He is an accomplished pianist and has received numerous awards for his excellence in piano and voice while participating in the ISSMA competition.” Zach is the son of Tim and Penny Allen.

The daughter of Ray and Jodie Stanley of Huntington, Alexis Stanley was nominated by art instructor Teri Fuller-O’Brien for her achievement in art. O’Brien says: “Alexis is a very talented young lady and a good student. She is also very willing to help and give inspiration on to other students.” Other awards include Arts Express, Peoples’ Choice Framed Award, Herald-Press Art Award and 4-H Awards. Alexis has also been awarded an art scholarship from IPFW where she plans to continue her post-secondary education.

Andrea M. Broxon is the daughter of John and A.J. Broxon. As teacher of Theatre/Masque and Gavel, Mrs. Ruth Reed nominated Andrea for this honor. “Andrea has participated in every show during her high school career,” states Mrs. Reed. “This includes Melodrama, On-Act Play Festival, Winter Play, Variety Show and Spring Musical. She shows responsibility and leadership skills.” Other awards include the Girl Scout Bronze Award, ISSMA Gold and ISSMA State Honors. Andrea plans to attend IPFW in the fall and major in English with a minor in Theatre.

Nominated by band instructor Chris Whitacre, Andrea Shriner is the daughter of David and Amy Shriner of Huntington. “AndreaŹ¼s musicianship, leadership and citizenship were the determining factors for her nomination.” says Mr. Whitacre. Andrea was also honored in Solo and Ensemble Contests throughout her four years at HNHS.
