The LaFontaine Arts Council has announced their Artists of the Month for December 2014.

Richard Spenner, drama teacher, has nominated Matti Gick for outstanding achievement in Theatre Arts. Matti, the daughter of Ken and Jan Gick, has been extremely devoted to the Theatre Department at HNHS. According to Spenner “She has been actively involved in the Fall Play, the musical, the One-act Play Festivals and the Variety Show. Her enthusiasm has been contagious.” Matti plans to attend Moody Bible Institute or North Park University in Chicago next year. She plans to pursue a career in urban ministry. She would also like to continue singing and acting and develop her French and Spanish skills.

Makayla Caley, daughter of John and Angela Caley was nominated by her art instructors, Teri Fuller-O’Brien and Joe Haft, for her excellence in visual art. According to Fuller-O’Brien and Haft “Makayla has taken at least one art class every year she has been in high school. Her talent has grown and matured each year in a wide variety of areas in art which have garnered her numerous awards. Her greatest art strength is in completing 2-D work, but she is also strong in her 3-D art works as well. Overall, she has a great work ethic and has developed into a very well rounded art student with very polite interpersonal skills.” Makayla plans to attend college and pursue art and archeology. She feels within these two disciplines she will be able to study areas that include mythology, mysticism, pre-Christian beliefs and cultures.

Nominated by Instrumental Music instructor, Ms. Heather Marshall, Kerri Gordon plans to attend Indiana University next year. She plans to continue to perform with the IU Marching Band and keep music in her school day as she pursues her future plans to major in Journalism. “Kerri Gordon is a fantastic student and performer for our band program. Her dedication to her craft has been amazing to watch as she has excelled during her high school performing career. She has been a valuable asset to her ensembles, she is a leader to her peers, and she continuously provides an exemplary example of musicianship and performance” says Ms. Marshall. Kerri is the daughter of Erin Brown.

Displaying excellence as a leader in Varsity Singers, Kelsey Hoke is the nominee from Dan Baker, Varsity Singers instructor. Mr. Baker states that “Kelsey Hoke is one of the dance captains for Varsity Singers, but she has been a leader by example since my arrival at the school. She is always positive and creatively looks for solutions when a problem is presented. She is patient with those around her as she works with her peers. She has improved her own performance skills immensely in her high school career, and that will benefit her in the years to come.” Kelsey is the daughter of Chris and Beth Hoke. Kelsey plans to attend Purdue next year.

The son of Robert and Annette Adamson, Dustin Adamson has been nominated by Mr. Richard Spenner for excellence in Theatre Arts. “Dustin has been very involved in the drama department since his freshman year. He has participated in musicals, one-acts, and the Variety Show. He is a very dedicated and hard-working individual who has added much to the theatre program. Dustin’s post-high school plans include a major in Nursing and a minor in Psychology when he heads toward college next year. Ultimately he would like to become a nurse. He also hopes to continue being in theatre, whether it be as an actor, crew member or director.

Caleb Cross is the son of Amanda Cross. Caleb was nominated for his achievement as part of the auditorium crew. Teacher Dan Baker says: “Caleb has a great attitude working in our auditorium Crew. He has been helpful working behind the scenes in many productions. Often he assists when he knows he is needed without prompting. He has used his experience with video and audio to help with the HNHS Today in all of our productions and presentations in the auditorium.”
