Are you ready to make a difference in 2012?

Posted: Friday, February 17, 2012

The Huntington County Relay for Life 2012 is offering the opportunity to help save lives by participation in the Relay for Life Kickoff event set for Tuesday, February 21, 6 p.m. at Parkview Huntington Hospital. Everyone is invited … so mark your calendars to join them.

The Relay Kick Off is a “shout out” for people to come and see what Relay is all about. Attending the Kick Off event isn’t a requirement to take part in the Relay - it’s a networking opportunity for those interested in participating in the Relay for the first time and those who are planning to participate again. The Kick Off event will provide attendees with information on how to start a relay team, how to be a part of Relay and how to conduct fundraisers for their team.

This year’s event Chairperson, Sally Grimes, says: “Kick Off is a great way to see what Relay is all about. Come join the festivities as we discuss Relay for Life, and how it impacts our community.” The theme for this year’s Relay is Relay Rocks. The entire event will be geared toward a music theme. Relay for Life teams can consist of a group of family, friends or co-workers. Schools, organizations and churches also sponsor teams. There are continuous activities throughout the entire event at Kriegbaum Field. Entertainment abounds as walkers relay around the track.”

Participants have the chance to get motivated and to make a difference by honoring cancer survivors and remembering people who lost their battle. It is an opportunity to assist in raising funds and awareness to help save lives. Participants will be playing a role in helping to create a world with less cancer and more birthdays. The Huntington Relay for Life will be held at Kriegbaum Field on Saturday, June 9, 2012 beginning at 2 p.m. Questions regarding the Kick Off event can be directed to Sally Grimes at (260) 358-6614 or to Melissa Stephens at the American Cancer Society office at (260) 471-3911.
