ADD, ideas for improved brain functioning

Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) is a neurological disorder. It is not a result of poor parenting nor of highly stressful environments.  It is a condition in which the brain struggles to meet its maximum abilities in order to assist the person in doing well throughout their day.

In fact, the following are some of the complications that a child, adolescent, or adult would struggle with if they had been diagnosed with ADD: Short attention span/highly distractible; restlessness, either internally or externally; impulsivity; poor organization; problems getting started and following through, often procrastinating; negative internal feelings, including low self-esteem and mood swings; relational difficulties; short fuse, often responding quickly and over-the-top to responses that are slight in nature; search for high stimulation; tendency to worry needlessly and endlessly/high anxiety; writing/fine motor coordination difficulties; performance worsening under pressure, such as test anxiety; sleep/wake difficulties , struggling to fall asleep and to awaken in the morning; low energy periods, especially early in the morning and then in the afternoon; overly sensitive to noise and/or touch (complains of types of clothes); may reverse numbers or letters in a word.

Studies, though, have been successful in demonstrating homeopathic interventions that can be used by people. The goal of the homeopathic interventions is to improve the cognitive functioning so the brain can better handle the above listed situations. A good night's sleep is absolutely imperative.  Some suggestions for a good night's sleep should include: Unwinding and going to bed at the same time each night; use of a background (or white) noise all night long; a deadly quiet room will actually keep an ADD brain highly awake; melatonin, a natural hormone that brains make at night in order for a sound sleep, can be purchased over-the-counter. Please receive medical clearance from a medical doctor before starting this assistance; a protein snack one hour before bedtime.

There are also indicators of things that can be done during the daytime hours to also improve cognitive functioning: Absolutely start each morning with a high protein breakfast; eat one portion of yogurt daily that includes active probiotics; yogurt assists the intestinal tract in functioning in a more healthy manner which helps the body eliminate what might be naturally occurring toxins in our environment. Take an Epson salt soak approximately three times a week for 20 minutes each time.  Pour one heaping cup of Epson salt in either a bathtub of water or in a foot soak.  Epson salts acts as a magnet to pull heavy metals out of the body. The Midwest can be fairly toxic for heavy metals given our weather patterns and our high volume of industry; therefore, any potential storing of heavy metals in our bodies can be countered by taking regular salt soaks. Omega-3 fatty acids. These have been indicated as a way of also assisting the brain in working at its optimal best.  These are commonly known as Fish Oil or Flaxseed Tablets.

Many people have found that all of the aforementioned can lead to better management of their ADD symptoms. For those people on medication management, these homeopathic interventions can be added to the regime.  They do not impact nor prevent medications from being effective.
