8th Annual Walk for Hope to be held

The 8th Annual Walk for Hope will be held Saturday September 15, in the Huntington North High School Fieldhouse. Registration begins at 6:30 p.m. with the event beginning at 7 p.m. The two mile walk consists primarily of Cherry and Poplar streets.

The walk is hosted by the Youth Services Bureau and the Teen Suicide Prevention Task Force. This year’s sponsors are Indiana Suicide Prevention Network, DeWeese Soft Water and Appliances and Bippus State Bank. The Walk is also a YMCA Battle of the Businesses event.

“Last year there were 100 walkers. We would love to have more this year,” shared Trace Hinesley, HCCSC and task force member.

“The main purpose of the walk is to bring awareness to the issue of suicide and the impact this has on our community” stated Shelly Snyder, director of the Huntington Bowen Center and a task force member.

Walkers can pre-register by contacting the Youth Services Bureau at (260) 356-9681 or visiting the agency’s website at Registrations are also accepted the day of the event. Participants may seek donations or sponsors if they wish to do so. All funds raised will be used to help provide suicide prevention activities in Huntington County. Donations are tax deductible.
