Posted: Thursday, December 3, 2020

White’s Residential & Family Services offers specialized vocational and workforce development programs that directly meet the needs of students in residential treatment at the facility. Located at 5233 S 50 E, Wabash, part of this program encompasses a very special garden center, café and floral gift shop known as 50 East.

Growing Teens for Life Foundation is built on W.E.S.T. (White’s Employability Skills Training program), and based on Indiana’s Department of Workforce Development. The faith-based program offered at White’s focuses on job readiness for each student participating in the program. Students focus on five skill areas desired in today’s workplace: mindset, work ethic, learning strategies, social skills and emotional skills.

50 East Garden Center & Café is part of this program, giving students the chance to utilize the skills they are learning and achieve certification. Currently, the garden center and floral gift shop are ready for Christmas. From poinsettias grown in the 50 East greenhouses to decorated Christmas trees, wreaths, arrangements and a variety of gifts in the floral gift shop area, the public is welcome to visit and shop.

Every season at 50 East Garden Center & Café finds a variety of plants grown and gifts offered to the public. The adjoining greenhouse offers houseplants and succulents year around. The additional greenhouse where poinsettias are grown for Christmas, houses spring and summer plants including hanging baskets. Mums and fall plants are sold in late summer.

The café area offers visitors a variety of hot drinks from coffee, to hot chocolate, lattes, mochas, tea and more in many flavors. There are also iced drinks, smoothies, frappes, muffins, cookies, oatmeal and more. The café is open Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Biscuits and gravy are served for breakfast Friday and Saturdays only. Lunch is served daily until 2 p.m. The menu includes a nice selection of salads, sandwiches and soups. To go orders can be placed at (260) 563-1150.
